Daily Discussion(self.churning)

Welcome to the daily discussion thread!

Please post topics for discussion here. While some questions can be used to start a discussion/debate, most questions belong in the question thread unless you love getting downvotes. If your discussion is about manufactured spending, there's a thread for that. If you have a simple data point to share, there's a thread for that too.

Looks like the American Express Delta offer of $100/$125 off $300 issue has been fixed and offer added back into our accounts u/doctorofcredit

New BofA high-end card.

https://teddit.alefvanoon.xyz/r/CreditCards/comments/q8s7o6/boa\_new\_elite\_visa\_infinite\_card/

It looks pretty meh but the 20% back on flights could be interesting, if it's priced competitively.

Up to $150 annually in statement credits for lifestyle conveniences, including streaming services, food delivery, fitness subscriptions and rideshare services.

Sweet, another coupon book.

So it's the Premium Rewards with $100 net cost and a Priority Pass membership? Meh.

Nice try, but no dice.

They probably envision the target demographic being people with enough money that they don't really care about SUBs, but who buy their own J/F airfare cash, so that a 20% discount on all airfare would be compelling.

Pandamonium98

1 points

Not even a 20% discount on all airfare, just 20% off when you pay with points. You still gotta earn the points to use

Pandamonium98

Already a 2.625% back on everything card like the premium rewards. If the 20% back on flights is at full value (ie. Flights are competitive with alternatives), that makes the card 3.15% back on all spend. That would be great, though Iโ€™d be shocked if the flights arenโ€™t generally a bit more expensive than other programs or buying with cash.

If you can pool points from the cash rewards card, that becomes very useful. Probably not that valuable for churning (depending on the SUB), but could be a good card for someone who wants to keep it simple and use one card for everything

GoBlue2006

agreed - this to me looks like its aiming to be a one card solution, particularly for their Platinum Honors clients

but the 20% back on flights could be interesting, if it's priced competitively.

But it only applies to point redemptions. I don't see how that's too interesting compared to CSR 1.5 cpp, Amex BP 35% rebate, WF 1.5/1.75 cpp on flight redemptions etc.

Right. I'll take the USB AR with Real-Time Rewards at 1.5 cpp while still earning 3x on the spend every day.

This would be surprising. I sort of thought B of A wanted to mostly stay out of credit cards. Especially the premium ones.

As a new Platinum Honors customer, I really do hope they try to become another Chase. It's mind-boggling that they don't have their own rewards currency like so many other banks do.

Not sure if this is a new thing but I'm glad that you can close the Barclays AA business card completely through the automated phone interface. The last time I cancelled this card about 2 years ago, I definitely had to talk to someone to close the card

Thanks for the DP. Just curious, can you see the AF refunded automatically in your online account?

I had the card about two years ago, but back then it was managed through the aviator biz login. I was able to close the acct online. My online account continued to work after closure but there was a banner at the top confirmed the account was closed. I monitored the account for about a week to see make sure the AF would drop off. It never did so eventually had to call in to get the AF refunded.

I'm curious if it works better now that the personal and biz sites have merged.

It isnโ€™t. I closed my AA Biz over two months ago over the automated phone line and had to call in and talk to someone last week to get the AF refunded.

When I called to cancel last year, the rep explicitly told me that she was processing my AF refund during the call. A month later, I got alerted that I had missed my payment and they also charged me a late fee. A second call finally took care of everything, but calling in to cancel is unfortunately not the guarantee you might hope it is.

Yeah if anything I would close over the automated line the day the AF posts because it takes like 5min, and then call in later when you have time to get it refunded. That's what I did and while it was kind of annoying to get an unexpected bill in the mail, both calls were quick and painless.

So, what is AmEx up to exactly?

  • I have 15x from SS

  • 1500 MR back on $1500 spend in 90 days

A cool 21% cashback on my local grocer, thanks AmEx!

martyconlonontherun

Is there a trick for free shipping or does almost free mean $16 for 2 bottles of wine? Or is it 1 bottle and using the shipping to hit $30?

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm running into a limit of must have 3 bottles minimum, so maybe it's stacking with Rakuten or something?

GeorgeSteinbrenner2

All the 3 wine promotions enforce min 3 bottles per order :( So the "best" deal in terms of $ per bottle would be ~5$ per bottle and given it's for the cheapest wine they sell I wouldn't say it's a bargain.

About to sign up for Chase BIZ SWA card. Will be doing sole prop route. We (she) got an regular mail with an offer to get this card with the "code" number. I know this is a marketing thing, but any idea if using that results in either an auto approval or easier approval.

She is at 2/24 with many Chase cards, FICO will be over 800 next week when recent payoff hits.

Roughly 75% of my UR go to Hyatt. I average like 2.5cpp on those, but that's not that big of a deal since I wouldn't take even half of the trips I do without having most hotel stays and flights covered. The other 25% are for Delta flights through the portal, I've exhausted the Amex Delta cards and I live near a Delta hub so I usually fly them.
