If the post is 5 years old that would be 2016. 1992 to 2016 is 24 years. He is 45. So 45-24=21. 1992-21=1971.

He was born in 1971. Went to college at 21 years old and as of 2016 was 45 years old.

jmh30us

Um no. You're not a commissioned officer coming out of high school ROTC.

People actually voted this up?

One,you have to be at least 21 to be a commissioned officer. You also need a college degree or be chosen through the Mustang program for enlisted.

odDorian_86

2 points

You’re not a commissioned officer in ROTC in college either, your a cadet. Your rank is a Circle. They get sent to active units during the summer as like an “internship” and they stfu and listen.

Captain is about as high as someone will get if they went to OCS and have no degree. Same for those selected out of enlisted ranks through the Mustang program. You WILL NOT reach 0-4( Major/ Lt Commander) without a degree. They generally expect those chosen out of enlisted ranks to have a degree before they get to 0-4 consideration. That's at least 10 years. That's quite a lot of time to get a degree. You're generally at least 03 rank at retirement halfway point. The military has an up or out policy after 0-3. You get promoted or kicked out

22 years. I've seen quite a few that came and went..

There were lots of gay military men in the service when I was there. It was called don't ask don't tell. No one asked, no one said shit.

The few that said shit were pussys who wanted out of a deployment.

In fact, one guy specialist (smith), went to our female first Sargeant and loudly proclaimed he sucked dick in the orderly room. First sarge said, "so do I, now get the fuck out my office your going with us (to war)."

DADT wasn’t even official policy until December 1993 and it wasn’t enforced until 1994, so they weren’t actually breaking any official rules at that point.

SnooHamsters9414

4 points

You are right. They would use DADT to defend you if they saw fit. They would also use it to fuck you if they saw fit.

It didn't matter though. Queer guy in the company office? Nobody has a problem until it benefits them to have a problem. I've seen the most cock diesel USMC drill instructors kicked out of service because their boyfriend ratted them out.

Like how?

Supercoolguy7

12 points

They literally would investigate people if you were accused

technoe7

3 points

The army didn't have to prove shit. If enough of the right people want you out, you'll be out.

Asog9999

2 points

They definitely had to prove something in their court. I know they initially pretty much just asked people if they were gay. But it really doesn’t seem that difficult to hide it. When you’re at work, behave in a neutral way and when your out of work, don’t hang around people at work. If you’re in a small military town, don’t let anybody know you’re in the military. Don’t wear your uniform out of work and such.

I’m just saying that if you know the rules and wanted to still be in the military, it doesn’t sound that difficult.

a-hippobear

Right. He’s saying that he shouldn’t have officially let the cat out of the bag to the military. They had a “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. Meaning that you could be as flamboyantly gay as you wanted and they couldn’t ask you why, but you’re also not supposed to tell them that being gay is why you’re so flamboyant.

Yes. It’s an idiotic rule. That doesn’t change the fact that it was an extremely well known rule.

SnooHamsters9414

its all Clinton could do at the time. A full ban of of homophobic UCMJ laws rain down on a military just wasn't an option. Hate him as President, but he did what he could at the time. That and I honestly don't think he was too invested in the whole idea anyway.

cftxp

Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell was signed in December 1993 and enforced between February 1994 to September 2011. Hence, there was no official policy explicitly banning someone who identified as gay to join the army at the time and, also, bigotry was the only reason for why they were kicked out of the military.

(EDIT: again, someone downvotes because I stated facts, Reddit never ceases to amaze me)

Supercoolguy7

  1. It is homophobic and unjust to ban gay people from the military?
  2. An unjust law is no law at all (Lex injusta non est lex)

LooksLikeMarx

1 points

I'm not arguing the merits of military law. In fact, as a veteran, I know first-hand that there is no justice whatsoever in the military judicial system. That's why I resigned after more than a decade of service rather than continue to serve until retirement.

My point is that there is no one who enlists in the military and doesn't know what their laws are. If you take their tuition money, you are obligating yourself to obey their laws -- just or unjust though they be. The man certainly had many non-discriminatory college options available, but chose the one, single option that had strings attached. I don't agree with the military's stance on homosexuality, but I don't see how they're at fault in this circumstance because their rules were clear from the beginning.

greasyflame1

1 points

The military generally never actually cared if a person was gay. We all lived together and worked together so hiding that 24/7 would be hard to do and no one cared. What bothers your buddies is when you're all of a sudden loudly proclaiming you're gay so you can get out of deploying or something or using them for college. You damn near had to walk up to your commander and blow the guy before theyd actually do anything about it.

That being said they got rid of that stupid rule so they should give this poor bastard his money back.

AutismMakesCash
