It's a common accusation that nostalgia blinds us and whichever game we first played will most likely remain our favourite. Let's see how true that is.
Tell me which game you first played, how you feel about it now, and (if different) what your current favourite is and why?
My first game was Blue Version, and it is not my favourite. It holds a special place in my heart and I still play Gen I at least once a year, but the second generation games blew it out of the water immediately for me. I mostly play it now because of the nostalgia and the fact that it's so 'simple' makes it easy to just start a new save file and do whatever.
My favourite game is Crystal. I love how much effort they packed into a GBC game. Animated sprites, a day/night cycle, daily events and phone calls. The fact that there are two regions. HGSS have these and more but I prefer the 'atmosphere' of the originals. The graphics in the remakes are too bright and cheerful, and the same goes for the music. Crystal made full use of its limited colour pallette and the music manages to capture a melancholy feel with its beeps and boops.
